These are the words of Saint Teresa of Avila, the Spanish mystic and Carmelite nun who lived in the 1500’s. They are words of perennial wisdom and deserve attention in any era.
When I was growing up, there was not a lot of talk about love and what it was, what it meant. It was never clearly defined or expressed. Our family was quite stoic and of Northern European heritage; the adults were more the silent type. While I may have felt a commonality with much that was around me, it would never have occurred to me that I loved all of this.
